You've gone under the knife and are in post-op recovery time now. The
instructions below are standard steps and need to be customized a touch for each
person and their specific surgery.
After the surgery, Dr. WeirCox will discuss instructions for care of your wound and
recovery from the surgery with you and the family member or friend who is
accompanying you. Feel free to call the office to discuss any questions or concerns
you have about recovering from the surgery.
The following medicines should be used for pain
- Anti-inflammatories (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen)
- Prescription pain medicines.
Instructions for care of your surgical wound
- You may remove the dressing in _______ hours.
- Leave steri-strips in place.
- You may take a bath or shower in ________ hours and pat the incision dry.
- No heavy lifting or strenuous activity for _____________________.
- If you have a drain, please record the output and bring with you to the office.
You should call the office about
- Fever greater than 100.5°F
Other instructions
- You may experience nausea and vomiting or other side effects from the
anesthesia. Call the office if you are unable to keep food down or the
symptoms are severe.
- Ice packs wrapped in a cloth or towel and placed on the area of pain may help
the first 24 hours.
- Your follow up appointment is scheduled
- Follow any other special instructions your provider gives you.
- No driving while taking prescription pain medications.
